Tateiwa

Tateiwa, which represents Kyotango in the San'in Kaigan Geopark, is a huge monolith with a height of 20m. Characterized by the straight and rough rock surface of the andesite, it is popular as a symbol of the region. The geo guide (charged) from the nearby Roadside Station Tenki Tenki Tango is also popular *reservation required.

The Imperial Court appointed Imperial Prince Maroko, the third son of Emperor Yomei (Prince Shotoku's half-brother), to be the Great Shogun and sent him to subdue the demons. On the way, when he stopped at a big shrine to pray for victory, an old man who was an incarnation of the god of Ise appeared out of nowhere and held out a white dog, saying, "This dog will guide you." A battle with demons began. In the Itsuki no Miyadaimyoujin Engiemaki (Itsuki no Miyadaimyojin Engi Emaki), the Imperial Prince slashing at a demon and a dog biting a demon are depicted. A demon running deep into the mountains. However, the mirror held by the white dog spotted the demons, Eiko and Karuashi were killed by the government army, and Tsuchikuma was captured alive in present-day Takeno, and sealed in the rocks of Tango as proof of his undeserved existence. I was. It is said that the rock is the current Tateiwa. Even now, it is said that on nights when the wind is strong and the waves are high, you can hear the cries of the demons.
